Somewhere during 1993, we've lost KSET, but a new player appeared on
the scene: Aquarius. Club began as a simple wooden building on the
coast of Jarun lake, but managed to establish its reputation as well
as to gradually expand to one of the best club spaces in the city.
Gjuro still existed, but Aquarius managed to attract more audience by
playing techno more attractive to wider crowds. While Gjuro played
slow and more 'intelligent' music, mainly due to DJ ED's 'artistic'
taste, Kiki and Frajman in Aquarius played hardcore which was almost
mainstream tewchno music at that time, but did switch to trance by the
end of the year.
Gjuro 2, 03.02.1993.
The oldest flyer I have. Since I have it, I wasn't that day in Gjuro
anyway:) Note the day written in red at the bottom of the flyer, a
usual practice at that time. Of course, copies were made using the
standard xerox-machines; real printing was way too expensive.

Aquarius, 18.11.1993.
The oldest Aquarius flyer I have. Official name of the evening was
Sabotage, a name borrowed from a series of german parties. Design was
also by Bitart, the same guys which made later Gjuro2 flyers, but they
did learn the job in the meantime.

Gjuro 2, 21.03.1993.
Pathetic design is what distinguishes this G2 flyer from its
predecessors. Well, at that time evil Cuki started to handle the
marketing and bombastic commercials appeared for the first time.

Aquarius, 30.12.1993.
This was a very busy season for the Sabotage-Bitart cooperation, since
practically for every thursday, a new flyer was released. They were
used as invitations, so you would always carefully watch for people
spreading them. As you might have guessed, I wasn't in Aquarius that
thursday :)

Gjuro 2, 28.04.1993.
This was one of the first live acts by
Ivo Topolovcan aka Corthex Thrill. Again, bombastic titles clearly
show Cuki's hands.
|
Aquarius, autumn 1993.
This was a generic flyer design which was used to enter any thursday.

Gjuro 2, 03.03.1993.
More or less standard flyer design for that period. Even though it's
xeroxed, it looks very good. The slogan 'Ecstasy: New drug for the new
rave generation' did not cause a scandal - presence of ecstasy was
minimal in early '93, and it started being a problem only by the
year's end. Basically, MDMA was not treated as a 'real' drug by the
scene.

Gjuro 2, Pepsi DJ Mag evening
Somewhere in mid june, Pepsi DJ Mag TV show organized a special techno
evening with performances and stuff. On entrance, they distributed
those calendars, which are interesting since they carry half of the
PLUR on them, along with music and dance.

Gjuro 2, 24.03.1993.
Standard design, again with a slogan which would today appear as a complete dejavu. Then, however... Vow...

Kulusic, 1993.
Kulusic started organizing techno evenings, somewhere before the
summer 1993. I have been there only twice, and I remember very little
on them. I remember however very hard and 'metal-on-metal' music,
excellent crowd and DJ Mary dancing on the floor in short latex
leggins:)

Under City Rave, 30.10.1993.
The best techno party in Zagreb City. Period. None later managed to
reproduce the atmosphere, music, crowds. Party was organized in a
system of tunnels under the old part of the city (hence the name),
which is usually used as air-raid shelter (again:). Organizer expected
no more than 1000 people, but on the day of the event 3000 of them
tried to enter. Many tickets were counterfieted, many people didn't
manage to enter. Still, once inside, you were in heaven. More
precisely, hell. Oxygen was that scarce in some areas that cigarettes
were unable to burn and lighter was useless. And, yes, one of the
best flyer designs...
